Around our Campus

We’re located on a 60 acre working farm—a pastoral setting that inspires awe and wonder and encourages learners to connect with the land and seasons.

Acton Upstate is located at Two Fox Farms, a working farm spanning 60-acres along the northern border of New York’s Catskills region. From the barnyard the land ascends to the west, climbing in a pattern of terraced hills, cut by natural springs and open meadows. Twenty acres of woodlands, including towering pines, firs, maples and hemlock, at the summit.

This is an amazing place for Eagles to explore, and we believe this pastoral setting lends itself to Acton Upstate’s founding principals: exploration and stewardship. Our Eagles learn to do from day one by:

  • Tending the learner garden
  • Participating in community stewardship project
  • Providing animal care
  • Planning and implementing individual entrepreneurial projects

Eagles explore sustainable agriculture systems and how to improve the environment through responsible farming and environmental practices. A number of our readings, Socratic discussions and scientific inquiry and research center on this important and accessible topic.

Rendering of future studio

Our completely new studio is located on the Two Fox Farm grounds, within walking distance, yet separate, of the farmyard. The studio opens up to the hill as it ascends to the woodlands, and is located at the bottom of “Christmas Tree lane” giving Eagles easy access to our hiking trails and open meadows. The immediate campus grounds, surrounding the studio, include an educational garden, a variety of native apples trees, evergreens, and an outdoor/seasonal classroom.

The studio is open floor plan, incorporating natural, neutral colors, and features a wall of floor to ceiling windows offering an all year look at the pastoral setting. Learners have their own dedicated space, shared library and media area, and discussion circle. The studio also has a kitchenette where learners can store and prepare their lunch/snack.
